News

A man who broke his leg went to the Dáil and got some sympathy. This was item 2 on today's radio news. Wow.

Another story today mentioned the fact that people working to improve and regenerate part of the country (PROBABLY FOR FREE TO THOSE IN THAT PART OF THE COUNTRY) received serious threats (DEATH THREATS) from the people they are trying to help. I can't fathom this. It's just unbelievable, that I'd threaten you when you're trying to regenerate my area.....

oh sometimes I wonder about this country, taking back perfectly reasonable and right concessions for people on whose backs this country reached its current greatness whilst continuing to spend money towards improving the housing, environment and services of others who plainly do not appreciate the work that either the government or those forebears have put in for their benefit, probably for free.

Now, government, there's somewhere you can take money from those who plainly don't want it and give it to those that do....?

Fancy Australia?

This guy (see link in title) is selling his life, in Perth. That's everything - his house, car, motorbike, jetski, his job, his friends (subject to trial period) except his name, ID, drivers licences etc etc. Madness. Currently, bidding is over 2 million Australian dollars, which puts me out of the frame, but still. I wonder could I get that for my life.......?

http://www.alife4sale.com/ - and there's an auction on ebay.

Yeah, it's wacky. But he'll be rich.

I want to post....

But can't quite think of anything important enough to post about. Oh, does anybody know how this voting in America works? I'll go and check and bring back what I learn.

20 mins later: I'm still confused, Wikipedia hasn't cleared it up for me. I'll give it five more minutes to see if I can find something useful.

Getting there. Found some info here and here about the primary system. It appears, and yes it does seem mad, that each state decides on a Republican and Democratic candidate - by different means. Some states have a caucus [kaw-kuss] where party members meet to decide who the state's preferred candidate is, whilst other states appear to have an election (madness!) called a primary, which makes a little more sense.

Some states have a limited electorate for these primaries where only registered party members can cast a ballot. What makes it even more odd, is that there are different rules for the Republican and Democrat parties!

So, what's happening now is that states local political parties are choosing their preferred candidate, and the results of all the caucuses and primaries will be gathered together later in the year to decide on the candidates. I think. Then there's an election, isn't there? More on that later.

Please correct me if I'm wrong - I need to watch more West Wing to be sure!

The things people come up with.

I suppose, in fairness, I must tip my hat to the ingenuity of the producers of Big Brother. I saw the opening evening of what, is it the tenth? series this evening, and we were getting the grand tour before the wonderful contestants were presented and I must say, it's original. They've dispersed the kitchen throughout the entire house......

There's a sink in the sitting area.

The fridge is outside in the garden. Across the garden.

The oven is in the bedroom (in which there is also a single bed, a double, a triple and 2 quad-beds)

There is a food preparation area, but I wouldn't call it a kitchen.

Imagine if these people applied themselves to world hunger, or cold fusion or something. Instead of ratings.
