I wonder has anybody heard anything spoken of this new device recently? If I were to tell you about it, you might be shocked and horrified to hear what it can do to perfectly sane, self-controlled people.
It's a small electronic device that can fit into your pocket or handbag. However it is an incredibly demanding instrument that constantly beeps, whistles and rumbles to attract your attention, and divert that of those around you.
Even when you're in the midst of a really tense moment of a film or an important meeting when somebody's made an effort to come and see you, this device can activate without warning and like a violent coup d'etat, overthrow what you were concentrating on and monopolise your attention almost immediately! This is especially evil in public places, like cinemas or restaurants, where other people have somehow, inexplicably managed to remove these things from their persons.
Of course, you can adjust the volume control in quiet places, but you can never escape its rumbled summonses, or its memories of when you last ignored it. It will make you feel guilty and boy oh boy you'll have to make up for it then and there. Or else you think that by speaking to it quietly you will satisfy its wants and desires, without realising that others can hear everything you're saying to it.
This thing will indiscriminately disrupt meetings, films, bus journeys, expensive meals and hospital visits. It will have to go with you everywhere, as it attaches itself to you like a leech. You may even start rabidly tapping the device's controls like a frenzied madman, trying to satisfy it's cravings for input.
Even when you're not using it, it insipidly and subliminally calls out to you, making you frightened that you've left it behind somwhere. You will find yourself frantically checking every pocket of your jacket or jeans to make sure that you have it with you, just in case that it wants you for something.
It's incredible how this beeping device will control your life! Once it was a telephone, now it's like a baby with the amount of urgent attending people have to do to it. And you won't know how you could live without it, but you can think of so many items that we already have to do its jobs! Would you want one of these? You won't be able to leave it behind you.
