What is Evolution 5.4?

As you might have noticed from some of the links and mentions in the posts, I'm a fan of a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (What a mouthful, no wonder it's abbreviated to MMORPG, and even that's a chore!) called Evolution. I came across evolution after I installed Mozilla's Firefox browser, when checking out the various extensions that you can customize FF with. Duly joined up about, oh I don't know, 5 months ago and ever since I've logged onto it 2 or 3 times a day!

It's a turn based space oriented game where you develop resources and technology on a continent. Your continent in turn is part of a planet, galaxy and dimension - that's the spatial organisation anyway. Players can also be members of an alliance (go Venom!) for combat and community purposes.

What makes it addictive are, I think, these 2 aspects. Firstly, there's the community. Imagine a big network of penpals from all over the world, all different walks of life - that's the kind of deal you get, only it all works a bit quicker. (I think that the Internet is fundamentally really old-fashioned - penpals but quicker).

Secondly, the turns are an hour long. What typically happens is that you log on at say 815pm. Assign some research, development, creature production or whatever needs to be done. Check out the forum for new chat. Voila, it's 852pm. Might as well hang on until 900 and the next turn!

So next time you're wondering who's about or where you can meet some new virtual buddies, check out ev5.neondragon.net for a great game and a great atmosphere.
