Confined Spaces

Evening. Just a quick post to satisfy some of you more impatient types that just can't wait for the next post. Nothing overly exciting is happening at the moment, except for a 4 day course on Confined Spaces that I'm participating in. It's interesting and frightening all at the same time!

Frightening in the realisation of the risks and dangers that exist, interesting in the equipment you use to try to alleviate said risks.

We've been on the course since last Monday, and tomorrow's the last day, with an assessment exercise and presumably a written test of some sort. We've done practical exercises in a mock-up sewer that were really quite enjoyable (is that the right word?), teaching us to use Breathing Apparatus, escape BA sets and tripods and winches - harder work than you might imagine!

We'll be learning about rescue tomorrow - the thoughts of dragging a 12 stone (78 odd kg for those of you on the new fangled metric system) through a 1200mm dia. pipe (48'' for those of you on the old imperial system) are quite daunting! But I'm looking forward to it really.

Will report in again later this week.

Currently Reading: Richard Dawkins - "The Ancestor's Tale"
Thinking about: Cornflakes. Swimming makes me hungry.
