Tullibardine 1488

Whisky? Yes, I do like it. Beer? Yes, I do like it.
Whisky beer? Sounds dreamy!

This Tullibardine 1488 is a "majestic whisky ale" from the distillery. Not sure how it works, but the label says they use the malted barley from the distillation process - that and the aging in an oak cask explains why it tastes like whisky.

The eh, first mouthful was a mistake. Far too much! This is a beer to be drunk carefully, to be sipped and savoured. It's quite sweet, more than I expected. Definitely caramel and vanilla - stronger flavours than one of my favourites, the Innis & Gunn (also aged in whisky casks, but not made with whisky barley). It's 7%, so I thought I'd post about it now, rather than later!

It's a very deep golden caramel colour, with not too much in the way of carbonation. Overall I'm not sure I like it. First impressions were that I thought it had gone off - though there is no sign of a Best Before date on the bottle...Maybe it will grow on me, but there is a kind of vinegary sourness in there to be honest. It's very unusual. But we like unusual, don't we!

This is a better review here.
