Watched Layer Cake last night in a mate's house. This is the kind of film that demands attention and concentration almost to the point of note taking, as it has one of those stories that's quite complicated. Basically it's about a drug dealer who wants to retire (bless him) after a final deal. However (yes, you've guessed it) he's double crossed - twice I think - and the film shows how he sorts out his quite precarious situation.
Apart from the story, nothing about the film really stands out. There's no particular violence, not much in the line of laughs, but it is clear from his performance that Daniel Craig (who plays the lead character) has the roguish look and charm to be a good James Bond. He's supported well by the rest of the cast, all of whom are quite convincing as nasty bad guys.
So, to the marks. I think I'll give it 4 / 7. Better than average, but almost too complicated to enjoy!
