12 People killed on the roads since Sunday.

Everyone is calling for action. Something must be Done. The Government surely must Act?

No, You must act. You who are calling for action.

How many of you have looked in your mirror more often since then?
How many of you leave 2 seconds clear gap to the car in front?
How many of you are slowing down slightly?
How many of you approach junctions and bends with a little more caution.
How many of you have decided to not drive if you're tired?
How many of you decided to drive after just 1 glass of wine?
How many people are actually affected by road deaths?
How many of you have checked your tyre tread depths and spent money on them if needed?

How many of you realise that when somebody dies in a car accident, they die. Gone forever. No more summer picnics. No more washing their clothes, no more eating lunch with them. No more rowing with them over the strength of the coffee. No more choosing clothes for that party. No marriage. No children. No mammy, no brother. This is what happens when somebody dies. Everybody who dies is loved and missed and could have been somebody close to you.

I wish we'd all stop wanting somebody else to do something when we can do something ourselves.....

  1. I thought the road safety people's add on the telly teaching people how to use a roundabout and overtake safely was a really good idea.
We need many more though. How about a 2 minute piece in the middle of the 9 o'clock news teaching people some road skills?
Education to pervent accidents ... not punising people who exceed an arbitary velocity. (I'm not for one second suggesting overlooking DANGEROUS driving, including driving at a DANGEROUS speed)
